Read interesting fashion news today. (almost used ‘random’, but I resisted)
1. Shu Uemura dies at age 79 on Dec 29 2007 of acute pneumonia.
“His big opportunity came during the filming of the 1962 movie My Geisha, starring Shirley Maclaine, when her make-up artist fell ill and Uemura stood in…
“Upon completion of Ms MacLaine’s intricate and laborious geisha make-up, Mr Uemura had transformed the actress’ Caucasian face entirely into a Japanese geisha with Asian features. There was ovation from everyone who witnessed the transformation, including Ms MacLaine herself,”"”
It is true: big break= opportunity + prepared-ness. I feel a certain regret that he has died, I read other reports about him before and I think he can be classified as one of the movers of the make-up and fashion industry. And besides how to make your eye lashes curl properly without Shu Uemura’s eye lash curler for Asian eyes?!
2. French luxury label Louis Vuitton will open a store at the upcoming Ion Orchard mall.
“Founded in 1854 by a luggage manufacturer who gave the company his name, it became the label of choice for European aristocrats and Hollywood royalty..
Louis Vuitton is the undisputed leader of the luxury industry, with 390 stores worldwide and an estimated annual sales revenue of US$3.72 billion (S$5.3 billion), according to Paris-based fashion journalist Dana Thomas.
And, thanks to house designer Marc Jacobs, its trendier products riff playfully on century-old Louis Vuitton iconography like the monogram canvas launched in 1896.”
like omg, 1896 (112 years!) and the design is still popular and the brand name is still expanding. Marketing techniques are fascinating indeed – it has the ability to transform a simple design into a classic design. i am amazed still.
(All news quoted from Life! and now you know which part of ST I favour most.)
